Evaluation

Overall my first idea for this project was mainly about women in film and how they were perceived in the 1950's and 1960's. At the beginning of this project this was the area that I wanted to go down as I love watching films from these decades, I was interested in the way that women were seen as both good and bad characters, the fashion at these times but also how things changed to women having there own voice.
Since World War 2 times for women changed as they were relayed on to do men's jobs when they were at war, they liked to earn there own money and not to be seen as just a housewife. After doing research into these era's I came across Vogue to see how women were perceived at this time in fashion. This became very interesting to see how over the two decades the way women were photographed to the tight fitting to loosely fitting clothes. I based my research around Vogue and fashion as I felt this was a better and a more interesting way to show how women became freer over time.
Looking into Vogue in more depth I was introduced to David Bailey the famous 60's photographer who challenged readers of Vogue and was able to capture women in a different light. He was able to picture women more freer in positions, clothes and the prints of the 60's were pictured to be bold and colourful like the fashion itself. The way he photographed in this decade was what made Vogue what it is today a challenge of fashion but also seeing women in there true form.
With the information that I have collected I was able to think how I can inform people with what I have found, this is when I decided to do some drawings similar to what I have done in a previous project. I was able to create delicate drawings that captured the fashion at this time. I collected some images from 1950's and 1960's Vogue magazine's to do some drawings which then turned into a whole set of images, this is when I decided to look into creating my own fashion book to show my findings and drawings. I wanted to show my drawings in a way that people could look and take time to processes and enjoy looking at instead of glancing at them.
When I decided the book was the direction I wanted to take my project putting my images together in an order that people could so people could see the changes was another step. I looked at many magazines including Vogue and Acne paper as these magazines are amazing to look at as there layout's of text and image are great to see. This is what I wanted overall for my book a way for people to understand what it is that I have researched and having a modern clean cut way to show my drawings.
I have learnt a lot on this project as I have developed my skills, I have also learned to be very organised and leave time for printing as the last details are important. As well as trying out different bits of paper as this is something that I don't really take time out to do but I have learnt that this will ultimately make my final piece more creative and work better. I'm also pleased that I had left enough time to make mistakes as well as this reflects on your work, I had enough time to try binding my front cover and back cover together which I had to redo. As well as reprinting pages to get the type and spelling right on the pages this took time and patience to get right which I am pleased I did as my final piece is the best that I have done.
